A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a fatal early morning stabbing.
Police were called to reports of a man having been stabbed in Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, at about 2.35am on Sunday.
The victim, who has been formally identified as 39-year-old Dennis Anderson from Lewisham, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 3am.
The force said the attacker had approached Anderson in an off-licence shop and a row erupted before Anderson was attacked.
A post-mortem examination held on Tuesday gave the cause of death as an incised wound to the neck, police said.
The Metropolitan Police said on Wednesday evening a 24-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a south London police station.
Detective Inspector Domenica Catino, who is leading the investigation, said: “Although we have made an arrest, we still need to hear from anyone that may have been in the area on Sunday morning.
“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could really help our investigation.
“We are aware of speculation around the motive for this attack and can now confirm that the suspect approached Mr Anderson in an off-licence shop before an altercation broke out and the suspect delivered a fatal attack.
“Our top priorities now are to support Mr Anderson’s family.”
Witnesses should call the police on 020 8721 4961 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
