Police ‘Extremely Concerned’ For Missing Reading University Student Daniel Williams

The search for a Reading University student who has been missing for three days has been stepped up on Sunday.

Police said it is “extremely concerned” for Daniel Williams, who was last seen just around midnight on Wednesday night leaving the student union bar in Reading.

The 19-year-old was reported missing after he failed to return to his off-campus student accommodation.

His disappearance is completely out of character, Thames Valley Police said.

The second year computer science student disappeared on the coldest night of the year when temperatures in the area dropped to -5C.

Volunteers from the Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue team have been supporting officers from response teams and neighbourhood teams from Thames Valley Police, along with the National Police Air Service (NPAS) in the search.

Leaflet drops have been arranged by Daniel’s family, and his friends have also been appealing for information on social media.

Friends of Daniel posted a map of his possible routes from the student bar on campus on social media in the hope it might jog the memories of anyone who might have spotted him.

They also posted the last photo taken of their friend, an image captured in the bar just hours before he vanished.

Superintendent Jim Weems said in a statement: “We remain open-minded as to the circumstances behind Daniel’s disappearance, but naturally, as the search enters its fourth day, our concern for him is growing.

“I would like to appeal to Daniel directly, if he sees this, please make contact with Thames Valley Police or your family. You are not in any trouble, but we want to ensure you are safe and well.”

He added that Daniel’s family are from Sutton, Surrey, and are being supported by specially trained officers.

“I would again urge people not to speculate as to the circumstances being Daniel’s disappearance,” he said. “We will continue to maximise all available resources into our search for Daniel, and would re-iterate that any sightings or information relating to his disappearance should be reported to Thames Valley Police.”

Williams is described as 6ft tall, slim build, with short light brown hair and blue eyes.

He was wearing black or blue jeans, a black hooded top and black shoes, and was also wearing a black t-shirt underneath with a distinctive white motif on the front.
